What the agreement must say, what the chair really has to earn, and the status and VAT traps that catch both sides.
What you will be able to do
About this course
Renting a chair is sold as freedom, and it can be. It is also the arrangement most likely to be entered into on a handshake, priced without arithmetic, and documented — if at all — with an agreement downloaded from the internet that does not describe what either party is actually doing.
That matters more than most people realise. If the reality of the arrangement looks like employment, it can be treated as employment regardless of what the paperwork calls it, and the consequences land on both the stylist and the salon. If the salon supplies more than bare space, the rent may not be exempt from VAT in the way everyone assumed. And a stylist who has never worked out what the chair has to earn before they take a penny home can be busier and poorer than they were on a wage.
This course is for both sides of that arrangement. Ten hours covering the honest financial comparison, employment status, what a proper agreement contains, the VAT position, your own tax and Making Tax Digital obligations, insurance, marketing yourself inside somebody else's salon, and how to leave well.
